(Sent to the website by Evan Davies on 11th April 2008)
All the best on your ‘Toor’ chaps and keep up the Sarrie’s pride Sorry I could not make it for the 60th Evan D P.S Give my best regards to those who remember me from the West Friesland and or Bulldogs |
| (Sent by Club President Paul Kavanagh on 2nd January 2008) Good news travels fast (league win for Sarries), but great news travels even faster (away win at Twickenham for Wales). What a fantastic result, after being written off by everyone at half time there was a complete change of fortunes. Wales may have only had a few chances, but the difference was that they took them. Chances for some serious gloating are limited out here, but I'm exploiting every opportunity. Keep up the winning ways at Sarries. I might get the opportunity to pop up in a few weeks (home 14 - 24 Feb) or at least meet up for a few beers. All the best, Kavs |

(Sent by Club President Paul Kavanagh on 20 Dec 07) Merry Christmas from Baghdad!! Just thought I would drop you all a quick line to say Hi and let you know how things are going. All is safe and well here and will hopefully remain so over the festive period. I will be having Christmas lunch at the British Embassy and probably followed by a few glasses of Christmas spirit. I'm not sure that Santa will be visiting - I don't think he will make it through the security check-points, and even if he manages to get through the Blackwater security guys will probably gun him down!! For obvious reasons things are not quite as festive out here, but in a way it's nice not to be subjected to the commercial pressures of the west; however, I'm sure that we will make the very best of our situation and still have a good time. The Iraqis are also on holiday for the next few days celebrating Eid, so things at work are a little quieter. Well that's it for now, I hope you all have a fantastic Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. I shall be thinking of you all when I'm tucking into my turkey! Look forward to seeing you all in 2008. Paul |

(Sent to Lee Garton Sept 07 by Dan Curtis) Lee, Good to hear from you and it's great to hear the Sarries are going well. I like the sound of all the players turning up to games and the team must be going well to get promoted. Annie and I have now got 2 little boys. Dylan (the reason we came back to Oz) and Jules (4 months). I haven't been playing Rugby. I've been riding my bicycle (commuting to work, charity rides, etc) and paddling an outrigger canoe (see www.canberraoutriggers.org.au). The outriggers are growing and doing well in our state competition. We are hoping to keep growing and improving, but it will take time. I'm about to take Dylan off to the local hardware shop for a coffee and so he can play in the playground, so I better sign off. As I say, it's good to hear from you and about how the team is going. (Sent to the Club 27/9/07) Hello Bath Saracens. Greetings from Rab Pollock in Falkirk. I played in the second row between November 1998 and October 2000 and last played aged 31 in May 2002 during a Presidents v Chairman XV game. I keep up with the clubs news and results through the website. As you can imagine I have very fond memories of time playing for the club and value highly the friendships I have made. I still feel part of the Bath Saracens family. So I just thought I’d drop you a line to let you know what I am doing. I married Jacqueline AKA Mrs Rab in 2000 and we have raised two children Dominic was born in 2002 and Kasia (it’s Polish for Katy) was born in 2003. An interesting claim to fame is that I was the first person in the club to wear a scrum cap (of the post 1971 modern variety). My other claim to fame was to provide an endless supply of funny stories, through my idiotic behaviour, to be recounted at various annual dinners. For example – one Saturday I was a substitute and running touch, a Sarries player made a break and was heading for the corner, well inside the five metre line with nothing between him and the line and certain glory. I jumped up and down shouting encouragement but in my excitement forgot I was holding the touch flag and the ref blew for a lineout. |
It was great to visit the club again and meet the current players. Even better to watch them play and win against Bradford on Avon on 22 September 2007 and I am pleased to see that the club is thriving. I am also keen to keep in touch socially and maybe play again on the tour to Amsterdam, if Robbie Lawrence is still playing then there is hope for me. I still keep fit and ran my third marathon in Edinburgh in May 2007 in 4:14. And I also play in the Edinburgh softball league for the Murrayfield Mayhem - a team made up of SRU staff. And my position, you guessed it, left field (as in “outta”). I would love to hear from players of my vintage robert.pollock@scotland.gsi.gov.uk or 6 Sunnyside Avenue Falkirk FK2 0GE or 01324 714 596. Please find attached some photographs for posting on the club photos page which I have been meaning to send for ages: 1. Team Photo taken by the Bath Chronicle before the trial match against old Edwardians in September 1999 (me in aforementioned blue scrum cap). 2. Copy of the Bath Chronicle article to which the photograph refers which mentions the appointment of Ken Hole as our new coach. 3. Copy of the back of the photo showing the names of players 4. Two photos attached together of my stag night (I’m the one in the red dress and curly wig) in Bath September 2000 with Saracens players, Mike Williams, James?, Lee Garton, Rob Garton and Paul Kavanagh. |

Sent 29th May 06 to Bren Hodkinson:- Bren, Just been looking at the Sarries website. Looks like you guys had a pretty good season. Well done. Had an email from Blanks passed to me today, and I got a bit inspired and decided I'd drop a line to the team, and here it is. I'm not playing Rugby this year, too much else on. I miss it and might see if I can rectify that next year. I reckon Annie would like me coming home bruised and battered again (not!). Anyway, well done lads. I'll keep and eye on how you guys are going. Regards, Dan Curtis |

Sent 22nd January 2006 by Claire Sidebottom, Sulis Club I am writing to you to ask if you could remind all your club members that the Sulis Club changing facilities are always open so for security reasons we recommend you lock your possessions in the lockers provided, in your car or take your bags onto pitch side. Padlocks are available from the bar for hire: Refundable deposit of £2 and a 20p hire charge. Despite us putting up signs to warn users of thefts, valuables are still being stolen from changing rooms on a regular basis. We are not able to lock the changing room door as it is a fire exit and is also required for use by our Gym members. We are able to patrol the building regularly but many of our weekend staff are female so unable to monitor inside the male changing areas. I would ask you to also inform your opposition on a weekly basis of these security issues as it is often these players who are having items stolen and do not see the warning posters. Many thanks Claire Sidebottom Sulis Club Shift Manager |

Sent: 30th November 2005 to Phil Cheese.... Dear Saracens, Partners and Buddies, Dan and I had a hectic, whirlwind trip home, stopping briefly at LA International (woopdy doo), Washington (lovely), Fiji (story to be told) and the NZ airport. We have finally settled at: Mr Dan and Mrs Andrea (Annie) Curtis 09 Cowdery Place Monash ACT 2904 Australia Dan's Mobile: +61 (0) 4015 91877 Dan's Email: dancurtis99@hotmail.com Our Website: http://spaces.msn.com/members/dna05 We arrived home, bought a house, unpacked and had the baby. It felt like we had completed all this in one manoeuvre. Dylan Ray Curtis (the pride of his daddy's heart and eyes) was born 18 August 2005. We're both really sorry this note took so long to reach you all. We're ready for visitors at last so get that Aussie trip ready ASAP. Dan would love to hear from all the lads. I think he misses the Rugby most of all the elements of our stay in England. He's riding his bikes again and getting trim. The lad is nearly as long as his father (OK, he's 65.5 cm long) and weighs a ton (i.e. He already has the fake beer gut). I'll keep this sweet but we'll catch up soon for sure. Love from Annie, Giggles from Dylan and Hugs & Handshakes from Dan. Annie Curtis |

From: D J Farris [mailto:sp2djf@bath.ac.uk] Sent: 23 November 2004 02:39 To: Hind, Gareth Subject: G'day sarries! Hey Gee! I've been receiving some updates on the season from Scott so I thought I'd send an e-mail to stay in touch and send the boys some encouragement to get back to winning ways! I've been in Australia for nearly five months now and I've finished my studying at the uni out here (not that it makes much odds, the only things I learnt were ozzy drinking games and how to surf better!). I played a couple of games of rugby for the uni second grade team (it was the end of their season when I arrived) and I'll never whinge about the cold and wet again after playing on fields like concrete in the heat of the day! I've started to travel around now and am looking to work out here for a while in the new year before coming home sometime next summer. Anyway, just thought I'd get in touch and pass on my regards to the boys at training (if anyone still goes!) and good luck for the upcoming games. cheers, Dom. |

From: Spencer Wall - 'Spencer.Wall@panasonic.co.nz' To: 'matchsecretary@bathsaracens.co.uk' Sent: Friday, May 07, 2004 1:58 AM Subject: email from bathsaracens.co.uk G'day from New Zealand! I played for Sarries in the early to mid-nineties and was an extremely UNremarkable player that played on the wing. The web-site is great, I've just found it and it was good to see some familiar names and read match reports, etc. I now live in New Zealand and have done since 1996. I am married to a Kiwi girl, Cherie, and have 2 children, Caleb (2) and Imogen (8 months.) I played rugby for a season here in Auckland but now live just north of Wellington and have returned to soccer as the body just won't take the knocks any more! I'm 36 this year but I've seen a lot of names on the site that I know are much older than me and still playing! There may be a few guys there that remember an anonymous winger from 10 years ago. Please say a hello in particular to :- Andy Burgess (he MUST have stopped playing by now!) Mark Button (good on ya Buggy, still bursting over for those trys I see!) Graham Maggs (Maggsy, you're a legend, 5 pints BEFORE the game takes a strong constitution mate!) Rob Lawrence Neil Pirie Paul Kavanagh (Kavs, you gave me a regular bollocking but you were right, I didn't have a clue a lot of the time!) Mad Dog (Andy 'something', used to live in Titfield Thunderbolt) David Pyles (a man also with remarkable drinking powers!) Anyone I've forgotten, I apologise but it's been a while! Please feel free to pass on my e-mail address to anyone that may be interested in contacting me. cheers, Spencer Wall |
