New coach Ken Hole has been putting Bath Saracens through their paces in readiness for the new Somerset League Division 2 season. The Saracens finished comfortably in mid-table last year, and they kick off their league campaign this term with a home match against Burnham-on-Sea on Saturday, September 25. Prior to that, they tackle fellow Somerset 2 side Winscombe on September 18, again at home, in the Tetley’s Bitter Vase. Attendance at the club’s Tuesday evening training sessions has been encouraging and with coach Hole organising some very well structured sessions, optimism is higher for Saracens. They took on local rivals Old Edwardians in a traditional pre-season opener and prior to the first league match, friendlies against Warminster and Frome will give new skipper Robbie Luxmore the opportunity to see all of his squad in action. Saracens enjoy excellent playing and training facilities at the Civil Service Sports Ground at Claverton Down, currently in the process of being sold to the University of Bath. This will in no way affect the club who, like all the other CS-based sports clubs, will enjoy long-term guaranteed use of the grounds and the changing, fitness and social facilities under the terms of the sale agreement. Access to the university’s sports facilities for Saracens members is another attractive feature of the conditions of sale, and the club also hopes to forge close and beneficial links with the university rugby club. Training takes place on Tuesday evenings (6.30) and any new players will be made very welcome. |
